SRUC

SRUC takes pride in its strong track record of career development for researchers. Research Fellowships are prestigious opportunities support research independence, international mobility, career transitions, and re-entry into academia after a career break. Fellowship schemes cater to various career stages, offering tailored support for researchers at different points in their academic journey.

SRUC supports applications to a range of externally funded Research Fellowships. Some schemes require institutional backing or are subject to limits on the number of applications SRUC can submit.

Why fellowships matter

Fellowships are a vital part of our research ecosystem and play a critical role in shaping research careers. Fellowships provide researchers with the opportunity to develop and lead innovative projects that drive meaningful impact. Whether you are an early-career researcher seeking to establish independence or an experienced academic aiming to enhance your leadership, a fellowship can significantly boost your profile and career trajectory.

Available fellowships

The UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships (FLF, Round 10 -2025) scheme supports early-career researchers and innovators with exceptional potential in universities, businesses, and research institutes. The scheme is designed for candidates who can demonstrate how UKRI’s investment will help them transition into leadership within their field.

Other Fellowships are also available. Please contact us if you are interested in applying for another fellowship scheme.

Application process

Due to the competitive nature of the FLF scheme, UKRI has introduced a cap on institutional applications. SRUC will conduct an internal selection process to identify the strongest candidates for submission.

Additionally, to ensure a transparent and fair selection process for all Fellowship applicants, SRUC has implemented an internal pre-screening process to ensure that applications align with funding priorities and have the best chance of success.

As part of this process, all applicants will be asked to complete an online Expression of Interest (EoI) form and an anonymous Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) form. Collecting EDI data allows us to track the outcomes of our selection process and ensure fairness and transparency in institutional nominations.

Please contact research.operations@sruc.ac.uk to request these forms and begin your Fellowship application process.
