English language requirements

All our teaching, learning materials, and assessments are in English, so to study at SRUC you will need to demonstrate proficiency in the English language.

In general, international students who require a student visa to study in the UK will need to demonstrate this with an accepted English language certificate, unless you are from a majority English speaking country or have already completed an academic qualification equivalent to a UK degree in a majority English-speaking country.

We prefer the Academic IELTS English Exam as proof of your English language level, but we can consider other local qualifications as evidence of your English language proficiency.

The specific score you will need on your IELTS exam or an equivalent score on another local qualification depends on whether you intend on studying an undergraduate or postgraduate programme at SRUC.

Specific information about which qualifications you should achieve to successfully apply to be an SRUC student are listed by country in our SRUC in your country pages.

Please note that SRUC uses UK ENIC (formally UK NARIC) to assess overseas qualifications and that any other qualifications listed are intended as a guideline to allow you to broadly compare your qualifications to the British qualifications specified on the course pages. All applications are considered on an individual basis using a contextual admissions policy to our admissions process which may take into consideration your life experiences, demonstrated aptitude for your chosen course, aspirations and related skills. Disabled people, physical demands, and reasonable adjustments

Many of SRUC’s courses are very practical and physical in nature. If you have any disability or health condition that may impact on your course, please contact us in advance of your application so that we can investigate any reasonable adjustments to course content, assessment or facilities. Some courses have specific physical/practical standards which you must meet, for reasons of health and safety, in order to be offered a place on the course.
