Hi I'm
Siobhan Macdonald
- Position: Senior Consultant
- Location: Highlands and Islands
-
Expertise:
- Agriculture, Crops and Soils
- Climate, Environment and Wildlife
- Livestock and Fishing
I am an Agricultural Advisor, based at RAVIC in Inverness and working with crofters in Wester Ross and Uist. Much of my work is to assist crofters to enhance their croft business, through improving livestock husbandry, management of grassland and habitats, or grants and schemes. Crofting has complex legislation, and it is satisfying to be able to help sort issues and help customers look to the future. I manage part of the Scottish Government’s Scottish Farm Advisory Service, providing highly regarded events on Common Grazing management, support for crofters and clerks, information for smallholders and events for women in agriculture.
I have over 25 years’ experience as an advisor with SAC, previously having worked as a farmworker and in veterinary and sheep research. After many years, I eventually managed to obtain a croft, improve the grazing and introduce Shorthorns and Scotch mules, which keeps me grounded and absorbs any spare funds.
