Interpretation of maternal EAE ELISA
S/P% </= 50% - Negative
S/P% > 50% and </= 60% - Inconclusive
S/P% >60% - Positive

Seroconversion only occurs after abortion and up to 30% of ewes do not seroconvert. Titres persist for months and sometimes years. Serology is therefore of value for diagnosing infection on a group basis and of less value in an individual animal. Where all samples are antibody negative and EAE is still suspected re-sampling after six weeks is suggested.
