Meet the Consultant - Lynwen Emslie

Lynwen Emslie

I am Lynwen Emslie, and I have recently joined SAC Consulting as a consultant in the Forfar office.

I was raised on my parent's beef and sheep farm near Machynlleth, Mid Wales. The farm goes from 60ft above sea level to 1600ft and has its own stratified sheep system. It is based on the Welsh Mountain ewe, where she is crossed with the Texel to produce a cross-bred ewe. The farm has purebred Welsh Mountain and Texel flocks as well as the crossbreds with all progeny sold as prime lambs. The cattle enterprise consists of Welsh Black steers finished on a high-quality forage-based diet for a supermarket contract. The farm has diversified early-on and has self-catering cottages, wind-turbines, and a hydro-electric system.

Welsh is my first language, the language of the kitchen table and of my school education. As a youngster, I was always outside helping my father on the farm and gained an interest in agriculture and livestock. I have a soft spot for both Welsh Mountain sheep and Limousin cattle, and I have shown and judged them both.

I graduated from Aberystwyth in 2003 with an honour’s degree in Agriculture with Business Studies. My first job was as an Animal Health Officer in Gwynedd, North Wales. I moved to Aberdeenshire in 2007, settling on a beef and sheep farm where I gained experience and knowledge of the many agricultural systems in the North East of Scotland.

I joined the Scottish Government - the ‘department’ in Inverurie as an agricultural officer in 2008 and stayed for the next 16 years. At the department, I specialised in land-based and cattle inspections. I prided myself on being able to help, which is where the story leads to SAC Consulting. I am now, so to speak, ‘gamekeeper turned poacher’ and have thoroughly enjoyed my first few months in the Forfar office assisting clients with their IACS and various queries. We are now amongst the throws of carbon audits on the back of increasing client awareness given the changes being implemented from 2025 onwards.

I have quickly grasped that when you answer the phone at SAC Consulting, you don’t know what you might be asked, but I have found that we will have the answer somewhere within the network! Within SAC Consulting we really do have access to agricultural specialists in all sectors, and I am proud to be part of that team.

I now live near Laurencekirk, in a beautiful spot overlooking the Howe o’the Mearns with my daughter, Lowri. My other interests include a Welsh Section D cob and my two home-bred Border Terriers - there is always plenty to keep me busy!
