Meet the Consultant - Jane MacPhee
I’m Jane and I joined SAC Consulting as an Agricultural Consultant in late February, working from the Stornoway office. To say the least, it has been a baptism of fire joining the organisation right before IACS! However, everyday has had exciting challenges and I am having a lot of fun learning on the job.
The move to SAC Consulting marks a significant change in career for me, having previously worked for the local authority in Stornoway delivering corporate training courses. There is a part of me that must have known I wanted to work in this sector though, as I studied for a BSc (Hons) in Sustainable Rural Development back in 2014. So, I am now able to utilise that degree. Although, I do find myself having to dive deep into the old memory bank!
Born and raised on the Isle of Lewis, on a small croft running approx. 30 Blackface sheep, my interest in crofting in my younger days was mainly during lambing time. Thinking back on how I would hope and pray for lots of pet lambs to look after makes me cringe nowadays. During my time working for the local authority, crofting never really left me, as I live on a croft with my husband, two children and our Boxer dog Skipper. We run a flock of around 50 Blackface ewes, and a smaller flock of Texels. When I am not at work, I am usually found down one of the crofts chasing after my two horses; Gucci (I didn’t choose the name…) and Lani; or trying to find my one-eyed pet duck. I’ve also recently joined my local grazing committee in the hope to exercise my new knowledge and strengthen our committee.
I am delighted to be working with SAC Consulting. There is such a large variety of work being carried out that is so vital to crofting communities. I really enjoy the wide range of clients we have here at the Stornoway office. It is fun getting out and about as I get to see the island that I have lived on my whole life from a different perspective.
