SAC Consulting’s Craig named Adviser of the Year

Three men stand in front of a background that says 'Scottish Agriculture Awards 2024'. One of the men is holding a trophy.

Craig Bothwell, centre, receives his award from Darren Bruce from The Scottish Farmer, left, and The Sheep Game’s Cammy Wilson.

A member of the SAC Consulting team has been crowned Adviser of the Year at the prestigious Scottish Agricultural Awards in Glasgow.

Based in Edinburgh, Craig Bothwell was nominated in the keenly contested category as a result of his hard work and dedication across the Lothians and Peeblesshire patch he supports.

Brought up on a family beef farm in Lanarkshire, SRUC graduate Craig joined SAC Consulting in 2015, specialising in beef and sheep systems, livestock nutrition, financial budgeting and subsidy applications.

After the ceremony he said: “To be nominated for the award was an honour in itself, and I am over the moon to have actually won.

“I have a tremendous portfolio of clients and I have always prioritised providing a quality service. It is extremely rewarding to have this recognised.”

This was the second year the awards were staged and hosted by The Sheep Game’s Cammy Wilson.

More than 400 people attended the glittering ceremony which showcases the resilience, successes and achievements of Scotland’s farming community.

SAC Consulting also sponsored the Diversified Farm of the Year award. Judges looked to celebrate businesses that have invested time and resource to develop additional revenue streams, excelling in customer service, collaborating, as well as supporting their local communities.

Last night, Marshalls Farm Shop at Boghead Farm, Kintore, in Aberdeenshire, secured the judges’ winning vote.

They said: “We’re amazed by the knowledge, ambition, and passion displayed by the family team.

“Marshalls Farm Shop is an outstanding diversified farming business which has expanded considerably in recent years.

“With clear goals and ambition, the family continues to keep on top of consumer trends to refresh their offer, be appealing to a wide customer demographic, while not losing their underpinning values in producing high quality food with strong provenance and delivering excellent customer service.

“A dynamic business with a prosperous future ahead.”

The Farm of the Year Awards feature categories for Dairy, Beef, Sheep, Arable, Diversified, Sustainable, and the new, Mixed Farm of the Year for 2024.

Additional categories in the Scottish Agriculture Awards celebrate the best Adviser, Contractor, Machinery Dealer, Supplier, Animal Health Provider, and the Best Agroforestry and Unsung Hero Awards.

These accolades highlight the remarkable ingenuity and dedication of Scotland's farming community.
